Welcome to Radio Eastern FM, your local community radio station.
Radio Eastern FM 98.1 is based in the outer-eastern suburbs of Melbourne, Victoria Australia with coverage across the municipalities of Knox, Maroondah, Whitehorse, Manningham and Yarra Ranges. Our potential coverage is more than 600,000 people and our programming focuses on community information sharing mixed with easy listening music variety.
Radio Eastern has very good facilities located at the Wyreena Community Centre. We have 2 full time on-air studios, a separate production studio and a mobile studio ( which is setup in a very comfortable caravan). All studios have facilties for presenters to play from a variety of sources including records (yes we still have and use turntables in our studios), CD, MP3 discs, mini disc, cassette and video tapes as well as allowing the use of their own external sources such as computers, Ipod or similar music players. Both on-air studios are set up with facilites to put outside broadcasts to air as well as to do interviews via telephone. Both on-air studios are large enough to accommodate several guests and this happens regularly in some shows such as the Whistleblowers on Monday night. Radio Eastern Playhouse was born to help bring our presenters together and have fun. So far we have recorded several short plays and one pantomine. Val Budge is the talent behind the script writing with in-house recording and production is done by Janet Cook who spends hours searching for or creating the sound effects that we require as well as finding suitable royalty free music for background.
